Fear is Holding You Back

I have touch thousands of people with MANY healthy ways to change their lives and live life fully. But some have not even attempted to make an effort to change. I have become convinced that “fear” is the elephant in the room that needs to be addressed.

Fear is holding you back from the victory that is yours. Whether you want to run a marathon, losing weight, find ways to deal with your pain or just live healthier.

Fear, big or small is a close companion.

In order to tackle the challenges in your life, you have to face your fears and not run from them. Fear likely is the number one hurdle that confronts you in life.

 

Fear of Failure

I have recommended that some patients eat a more plant-based diet. Even before I walk out of the room I have heard patients say “ I could never do that”. After many years of practice and thousands of patients, one of the many things I have learned is the following. Many people never even try because of the fear of failure. Broccoli has no teeth, but it apparently has a strong bite for those who hate vegetables. I truly believe in the saying “It is better to try and failed than to never try at all”.

 

Fear of Rejection

If you are living on earth you have experienced some sort of rejection. It is as common as the air we breath. In order to prevent rejection, some people just avoid an encounter. We tell ourselves negative messages. “Working out never works for me”. The approach that most clinicians recommend is not to avoid entering into your “purpose “ due to fear. Focusing on the things that you have control over. Letting go of those things that you cannot control. You really cannot control whether someone will reject you.

 

Fear of Uncertainty

The fear of uncertainty has lead to a society of “decisionphobia”. We often use excuses that others have tried and failed. Many times our incisiveness is due to a fear of making the incorrect decision. What we fell to realize is t no decision is a decision to do nothing. Another wise saying “choose your path or it will be chosen for you”. Want to get healthier then really decide to do so, that is the first step.

A Dog Can Help You Live LONGER- Slashing Risk of Premature Death

Having a dog could help you live longer. A European study of more than 3 million older people showed that people who had dogs lived 33 percent longer than those who did not have a dog. These furry animals have long been known to reduce heart rate and blood pressure. Higher blood pressure is related to cardiovascular disease. Statistically, heart disease is a major cause of death. Studies have been done for many years correlating this healthy relationship between man and animals. This recent study was the largest study done to date.
The positive association with animals might also be related to increased activity related to animal ownership.It is believed also that maybe animals increase social activity. Nursing homes and hospitals have successfully used pet therapy as part of the healing process.

Apple cider vinegar and turmeric are both one of the most popular natural compounds. We know that both have beneficial properties. Claims to treat everything from tooth whitening to cures for cancers.

1.Weight Loss From Turmeric

Turmeric does not make direct claims to produce weight loss. But it is a fact that turmeric can reduce the inflammation in the colon leading to better absorption of nutrients. Leading to less hunger. Calorie consumption will be less and weight loss will ensue. Turmeric helps detoxify the liver. The burning of fat efficiently by the liver could help with weight loss.

Apple cider vinegar has been said to cause weight loss. Typically people put about a tablespoon of vinegar to 8-10 oz. of water. It is normally consumed before a meal. The physiology behind this reduction in weight is suggested to be related to the antiglycemic response. Vinegar blocks the absorption of starch. Guess what happens when you absorb less starch. Weight loss! Drink the vinegar and eat a starch. Thereby blocking the absorption of eh starch. Some believe that acetic acetate found in all kinds of kinds of vinegar, pomegranate vinegar or maybe even white distilled vinegar might have the same starch blocking effect.

3.Reduction in Diabetes from Turmeric and Vinegar

Diabetes might be decreased using vinegar.  Rat and human studies show that vinegar can increase the activity of insulin in lowering the body’s sugar. After a meal rich in starch, taking vinegar resulted in lower blood sugars. The amount required is 1-2 tablespoons of vinegar. Turmeric has no effect on insulin in human studies. Only rat and mice studies on the reduction of cancer studies from apple cider vinegar. Several studies have shown in humans that turmeric can reduce a certain type of cancers such as the prostate.

Vinegar seems to be safe with very little side effect. Vinegar acidic nature can cause some gastric burning in some individuals. I am one of those individuals and prefer to get my beneficial effects from turmeric.

Your Laptop on Planes Could Be Causing You Major Back Pain

Recent article in Travel and Leisure points out that using your lap top in an airplane can lead to worsening neck and back pain. Poor posture while using your lap top is not limited to the airplane but office stations or desk. The ergonomic on the airplane are worsened by the cramped seats and poor downward position of the tray table. Solution to preventing “cramped neck and back pain”,

1. 6-10 weeks before the flight work on strengthen and flexibility of the back muscles.
2. Make sure that your feet are resting flat on the floor.
3. A Lumbar pillow can help support the normal back curvature so that strain is minimized to the lower back.
4. Buy a portable laptop stand, that will elevate the laptop to a more ergonomically angle.
5. Frequent changing of positions and stretching helps keep the muscle from tensing up and causing pain.

The Mayo clinic (Dr. Brent Bauer) address the issue of chronic pain. The question was asked about the best alternative treatments for chronic neck and back pain. The major concern was that the writer was unable to take pain medication and she was requesting what supplements that were safe and known to work.

The article points out that chronic pain is the most common cause of disability in the U.S. More people suffer from chronic pain than diabetes, cancer and heart disease. At the Mayo clinic they conducted several clinical trials on message therapy and the results demonstrated that message was very effective in the overall strategy for pain management. The combination therapy of message and mind-body therapy like Yoga, tai chi mediation and guided imagery.
